Not every thought needs to be a loud one. But unfortunately, the internet has given people endless opportunities to criticize each other's lives and spread misinformation. And as the subreddit "Stuff Mom Groups Say" highlights, some parents seem to be in a league of their own. They appear to have convinced themselves that raising a child automatically makes their opinions more valuable than everyone else's, and good luck trying to change their mind. Even if you're an actual expert.
Then again, these are the same people who will confidently argue that vaccines cause autism while also insisting that essential oils can cure pneumonia. The collection of screenshots from online mom groups reveals a disturbing pattern of toxic behavior, from shaming other mothers for using formula to suggesting that a toddler's tantrum is a sign of demonic possession. One woman proudly declared that she refuses to let her child play with anyone who has been vaccinated, as if she were protecting her kid from a zombie apocalypse rather than a common cold.
Other gems include mothers who claim that their parenting style is the only correct one, dismissing pediatricians, teachers, and even their own spouses as uninformed. One particularly unhinged post featured a mother who argued that her four-year-old should be allowed to skip nap time because "he knows his own body better than I do." Another insisted that her child's refusal to eat vegetables was actually a sign of advanced intuition. The common thread is a complete lack of self-awareness and a willingness to double down on bad ideas.
While these posts are often shared for laughs, they also serve as a reminder that the internet has given a platform to people who would have otherwise just been the annoying relative at Thanksgiving dinner. The comments sections are filled with people pointing out the logical fallacies, but the original posters rarely back down. It's a strange world where having a child somehow qualifies you to argue with a doctor, but at least it provides endless entertainment for the rest of us.
