School Urges Parents to Build Supportive Homes Ahead of Holidays

School Urges Parents to Build Supportive Homes Ahead of Holidays

A school in Namugongo has called on parents to create supportive home environments during the upcoming holidays, warning that harsh parenting risks driving children away rather than correcting them.

The appeal follows the dismissal of a pupil, an incident that drew public attention and prompted the school to clarify its position. School authorities said the decision was taken after careful consideration and in line with established procedures, dismissing claims that the pupil was treated unfairly.

Speaking about the matter, a cleric attached to the school cautioned parents against turning their homes into battlegrounds. He said holidays should be a time for guidance, listening and correction rather than confrontation, noting that children who fear their parents often hide problems instead of seeking help.

The school also encouraged families to work closely with teachers and guardians, stressing that discipline works best when home and school share the same expectations. Parents were advised to monitor their children's behavior, keep communication open and seek professional support when needed.

Community members welcomed the message, saying many families struggle to manage young people during long breaks from school. The school said it remains committed to the welfare of its pupils and will continue engaging parents on positive discipline.
