Jill and Derek Dooley made a decision that many dream about but few actually follow through on. They sold their $400,000 house and moved their family of four into an RV full time. The couple says the change has been about more than just cutting costs. It has reshaped how they spend their days and how they connect with each other.
The Dooleys traded a fixed address for a mobile one. They packed up their lives, downsized their belongings, and hit the road. Jill says the financial side of the move has worked out well. They are spending less money on housing, utilities, and the constant upkeep that comes with owning a home. But the real payoff, she explains, is time. Without a house to maintain and a commute to manage, the family has more hours together. Meals are shared. Schedules are looser. The kids are learning on the road, and the parents are present in a way they were not before.
Derek agrees. He says the shift has forced them to be intentional. In a house, it was easy for everyone to scatter into separate rooms. In an RV, they are close. That closeness is not always easy, but it has made them a tighter unit. They do not miss the mortgage payments or the weekend chores. They do miss having a backyard sometimes, but they say the tradeoff is worth it. The Dooleys are not sure how long they will keep this lifestyle going, but for now, the road is home.
