On February 1, 2025, nearly 500 parents and children came together for the 2nd Chiang Mai Positive Parenting Fun Run, held at the Taksin Army Base. This event was organized by the Rajanagarindra Institute of Child Development, the Department of Mental Health, and the World Health Organization Thailand, among other partners. The initiative aimed to strengthen family bonds and promote positive parenting practices, emphasizing the importance of emotional intelligence in children.
Participants enjoyed a scenic route filled with interactive activities designed to enhance connections between parents and children. Gratitude-sharing games encouraged families to express appreciation for one another, fostering a nurturing environment. Dr. Sirisak Thitidilokrat, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Mental Health, highlighted the need for quality time between parents and children, stating that such activities help develop essential parenting skills.
The event comes in response to rising concerns over child domestic violence and mental health challenges in Thailand. Dr. Olivia Nieveras from the WHO reiterated the importance of multi-sectoral policies that support parenting. As families crossed the finish line hand in hand, it was evident that the true victory lay in the shared joy and moments of togetherness, reinforcing the event's message of love and support in parenting.
